Messi and James seal wins for Argentina and Colombia respectively

​Argentina edged past Chile 1-0 for a crucial three points in World Cup qualifying as Lionel Messi scored the game’s only goal.

A Lionel Messi penalty saw Argentina to a vital 1-0 win over Chile in World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

The Barcelona star struck from the penalty spot in the 16th minute at the Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires.

Messi sent Claudio Bravo the wrong way with his spot-kick after Jose Fuenzalida had brought down Angel Di Maria in the area.

Meanwhile, Colombia looked to be heading for a costly draw in World Cup qualifying before James Rodriguez’s intervention against Bolivia.
James Rodriguez scored a dramatic winner with seven minutes remaining as Colombia got their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track with a 1-0 home win over Bolivia.

It looked as if Jose Pekerman’s side were heading towards a frustrating draw in Barranquilla, until captain James netted from the rebound after his penalty had been saved by Bolivia goalkeeper Carlos Lampe.
